How to implement Tele-audiology with KUDUwave™
eHealth will always require a setup with internet connectivity. It would not be possible to share clinical data and connect health practitioners with patients without it. Here is how you can use your KUDUwave to bridge the gap.
Methods of Tele-medicine
First, it is important to realise how you wish to conduct tele-audiology before you can decide if it is the best solution for your practice.
Synchronous (Live and in Real-Time)
The patient will have access to a service, while the practitioner (audiologist) is miles away with remote computer access to the equipment. The patient is assisted by a technician or nurse and is set up for testing.
The practitioner then joins the consultation via live video streaming and conducts the test via a remote computer control app. It is a normal consultation in every sense of the word, except the practitioner is not bound by location and his next patient can be across the country from the first one.
Asynchronous (Attend to patients immediately, Assess results later on)
Again, the patient has access to a service and they will be assisted by an allocated nurse or technician. The test is conducted by the assistant and the results are sent to a cloud-based storage facility or via email. The practitioner (audiologist) can then access these results at a later stage and assess the patient’s results and consult the patient via correspondence.
Hybrid (Best of both)
Use the best of both worlds by storing your data on a cloud based system and live stream your consultations with your patients wherever you are.
The Right Tools for the Job
Your KUDUwave audiometer together with your laptop as the PC controller are mobile. With this freedom, you are able to work outside of the office and go wherever you are needed, however, tele-audiology offers a much bigger picture than a simple mobile practice would. If you add a WIFI modem to the mix, your technology enters a whole new playing field of possibilities.
With the PC connected to the internet, you can use a remote desktop application to access the PC and control the KUDUwave and its software from across the world. Now tele-audiology can be an idea realized.
You will also need a way to communicate and consult with your patient. Depending on the method of telemedicine you prefer, investigate the options of either video streaming, or live video calls for a face-to-face consultation. You should also consider ways to store and share your medical records safely and confidentially.
